The Story Behind Her:
When I came across this image (circa 1918) in the archives, I knew I had to resurrect it and use it in a piece. It is of a charismatic Cleopatra as portrayed by silent and early talkie film star Theda Bara. Here she is proclaiming "I will not be triumphed over" - leaving no doubt as to her inner fortitude. What a woman!
Incorporated into this work are authentic elements from that era such as an antique brass pull and lovely aged bits of lace.
Description:
Organic, earthy, and tactile these works ask to be experienced with all of your senses. Constructed using assemblage and collage techniques, incorporating resurrected public domain image, items like stones, feathers and other natural finds, and embellished with beads etc.; hand dyed, distressed fabric; handmade paper and a variety of mixed media materials.
This 18x15" piece is constructed of vintage and new fabrics which have been aged. Rich and intricate this art collage is built layer upon layer, and is embellished with both new and vintage items like the antique petite drawer pull, faux pearls and assorted handmade papers. It is hung via a loop on its back.
